Cameras are set to start rolling on Furiosa in Australia very soon, and director George Miller has now shared some intriguing new details on his Mad Max: Fury Road prequel during an interview with Deadline.
As we know, the movie will focus on a younger version of Charlize Theron's formidable Imperator, as played by The Northman actress Anya Taylor-Joy. However, it sounds like the story will take us up (or close) to the events of Fury Road.
Though Miller was hesitant to speak about the film in any great detail, he was willing to divulge that he feels it "has got off to a lovely start."
"All I can say about my excitement about doing it is that it’s definitely exciting, because even though it’s certainly of that world of Fury Road, it’s also got a lot of the differences we’ve been talking about. Again, it’s uniquely familiar. And probably the biggest difference is the timespan. Fury Road happened over three days and two nights and this one happens over 15 years. So, it’s a saga."
"For more than that, we’ll have to talk again in the future," he added.
Thor: Love and Thunder star Chris Hemsworth will play the male lead in Furiosa. Details on his character are few and far between, but he is believed to be playing the villain. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, The Matrix Resurrections) was recently forced to drop out of the project due to a scheduling conflict, and was replaced by British TV actor Tom Burke.
