Something strange may be on the way in the form of the first teaser trailer for Sony Pictures' Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel!

Last night, to celebrate Halloween, the franchise's X (formerly Twitter) account shared a cryptic video which appears to be teasing the first trailer for the upcoming sequel to Jason Reitman's 2021 hit.

The brief clip spotlights the updated frozen logo that debuted earlier this year, along with a blood-curdling howl, but it doesn't reveal a date or even confirm that a first look at some footage is on the way.

In addition, a rumor doing the rounds online is claiming that the Afterlife sequel will be titled "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" (the working title is Ghostbusters: Firehouse). This would certainly explain the icy ghost logo, but we're not sure where this rumor originated from, so best not to put too much stock in it just yet.

Check out the video at the link below.

The first set photos were shared online back in April (click here to have a look), and they featured original Ghostbuster Ernie Hudson alongside Paul Rudd, who debuted in the last movie as the kids' teacher, Mr. Grooberson, and another actor from the '80s classic, William Atherton as "dickless" Environmental Protection Agency officer Walter Peck.

Plot details are still under wraps, but after moving the spooky adventures to a more rural setting for Afterlife, it's been confirmed that we'll be returning to New York City in the next movie.

Other main cast members Carrie Coon (Callie Spengler) Finn Wolfhard (Trevor), and Mckenna Grace (Phoebe) are expected to return, but it's not clear if Hudson's fellow Ghostbusters OGs Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd will also reprise their roles.

In the previous movie's stinger, we saw Winston return to the team's old headquarters, where the refurbished ECTO-1 was waiting. Though nothing has been confirmed just yet, the implication was that Zeddemore was planning to train a new group of spook-hunters.

"Running out of options and money, single mum Callie sets foot in the small town of Summerville, Oklahoma, with her two teenage children, Phoebe and Trevor. And now, there is no turning back. As the family attempts to settle in the dilapidated house of Callie's eccentric late father, unexpected secrets hidden in plain sight, mysterious equipment, and a strange vehicle rotting in the barn seem to relate to the area's puzzling seismic activity, and something even more shocking: the long-forgotten Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man Incident in 1980s New York City. But there hasn't been a single ghost sighting since the bizarre events of Ghostbusters II (1989). Is history repeating itself? Will Phoebe connect the dots, give her grandfather a voice, and discover the family's connection to the original Ghostbusters (1984)?"
