Warner Bros. and Legendary's MonsterVerse is still very much alive and kicking, with a follow-up to Godzilla Vs. Kong in the early stages of development, and a Titans-centric TV series also in the works for Apple TV+.
However, the Japanese studio who originally introduced Godzilla to the world all those decades ago is still producing movies focusing on the iconic monster, and a new theatrical release is scheduled for next year.
To mark Godzilla Day, Toho has announced that an untitled Godzilla feature will stomp into theaters on November 3, 2013.
This will be Toho's first Godzilla movie since 2016's Shin Godzilla. Very few details have been revealed, but we do know that Takashi Yamazaki - the filmmaker who worked on visual effects for Shin Godzilla - will direct the film.
“Godzilla’s long history has shaped the world of pop culture and monster fandom for nearly 70 years,” said Lora Cohn, managing director of Toho International.
“There’s more access to Godzilla than ever before because of streaming services and the internet,” added Bill Tsutsui, a historian and academic known for his expertise in Godzilla. “Growing up, it was hard for me to meet other Godzilla fans. There was no forum or social media for a gathering around monsters.”
