Godzilla vs. Kong opened to mixed reviews last year, but even in the midst of the pandemic (and a dual release on streaming courtesy of HBO Max), it was still a hit. Kaiju fans are eager for another battle between the Titans, but it was clear that some big changes were made to the crossover event; for starters, Iron Fist alum Jessica Henwick ended up being completely cut from the story!

Ambulance star Eiza González played Apex Cybernetics executive, Maia Simmons, in Godzilla vs. Kong, and admitted in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that her role totally changed.

"A lot of the story got cut out and the story was completely changed, so it was a bummer because my character had a whole different storyline that went in different routes," the actress explained. "And Jessica getting cut out of the movie really affected all of the other characters. But it wasn’t anything to do with Jessica’s character. It was just that the storyline changed because the movie is called Godzilla vs. Kong and it obviously has to service them. They’re the big stars."

"I’m just grateful that I got to do a really fun movie. I really enjoyed that shoot. I really enjoyed working with Adam [Wingard] and my cast. I love Legendary and Warners," González continued. "So my experience was really good, but that’s just par for the course, sometimes. You learn so much by doing these movies, and I’m just really happy that we were able to release that movie. I would’ve loved for us to wait a little longer because it was just such a fun, big movie. I would’ve loved for more people to experience it in a big, big theater."

González was actually supposed to have a lead role in the movie, but ended up being little more than a supporting character. Like the recently released Morbius, there's clearly another version of Godzilla vs. Kong hidden away somewhere, but for many fans, cutting a few humans was far from a bad decision.

After all, 2014's Godzilla came under fire for not putting enough to the spotlight on its title monster, and there was definitely plenty of epic Kaiju action when the King of the Monsters battled Kong.

The franchise's future is unclear, though Son of Kong is expected to be next for theaters.
