GODZILLA x KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE Director Reveals New Skar King Details And Explains Kong's Robo-Arm

In Godzilla vs. Kong, the titular Titans squared off in an epic clash which ended with them seemingly becoming allies.

While that movie led to more than its fair share of memorable moments, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire looks set to take the MonsterVerse down its most bonkers route yet. The sequel will shift the action into Hollow Earth and is set to introduce a deadly new threat in Kong-like Titan, Skar King.

Talking to Total Film, director Adam Wingard was asked about the franchise's monstrous big bad and teased, "What’s interesting about this new film is that we go in a direction that I don’t think this series has ever seen before, which is that the Skar King is, in a way, the closest that the human threat has ever been juxtaposed onto a titan itself."

"The Skar King almost represents an upscaled version of the worst parts of humanity, just as Kong represents some of the best parts of humanity," the filmmaker continued. "I would say the Skar King is the greatest threat that we’ve seen in these movies. It’s really going to take a full team together to bring it down because it’s too big for just one titan!"

We're definitely intrigued to see what this villain brings to the table, but he'll have a tough challenge taking down Godzilla and Kong. The latter even seems to be sporting a robotic arm - recently named on an action figure as a B.E.A.S.T. Glove - and Wingard chose his words carefully when asked about the device.

"It's kind of hard to say too much more than that without spoiling anything, because he has one of my favourite intros of any character I've ever shot in my films," he reveals. "What I will say is I'd want to play with that [action figure] if I was a kid!"

"And though Apex isn't in this story in a literal way, we kind of hint that Monarch absorbed a lot of the Apex technology after the last film. The glove Kong is wearing, it's somewhat insinuated that's Apex technology."

You'll recall that Mechagodzilla was created by Apex and we'd bet on Monarch having got its hands on some of their tech following the rampage that robotic beast ended up going on.
