Deadline is reporting that Sony Pictures has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Miramax's Here, an upcoming movie adaptation of the acclaimed Richard McGuire graphic novel of the same name. Miramax still possesses the film's international rights, but will be presenting the package to buyers in Cannes over the next few days.
The newly-announced film will reunite the entire Oscar-winning Forrest Gump team of director Robert Zemeckis and screenwriter Eric Roth as well as stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. This will be the first time since the film's 1994 release that all four have worked together.
Sony is eyeing a theatrical release for the film and are planning on it being a major awards player come the 2023 season, which shouldn't really come as a surprise considering the talent involved.
The project is described as "a breathtaking and revolutionary odyssey through time and memory. The innovative story is centered around a place in New England where from wilderness, and then, later, a home – love, loss, struggle, hope and legacy play out between couples and families over generations."
Here was originally published in 1989 in Raw Volume 2 #1 as a six-page comic strip, before McGuire turned it into a full-sized 300-page, full-color graphic novel in December 2014.
Production is scheduled to begin in September.
