Late last year, we learned that filmmaker brothers Jonathan and Josh Baker (Kin) had been enlisted to helm a sci-fi thrilled called Ursa Major, which was set to star Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness breakout Xochitl Gomez.
Now, Deadline is reporting that Winstead has been forced to drop out of the project due to a scheduling conflict, with Jessica Biel (The Sinner, Blade: Trinity) stepping in to replace her in the lead role.
The movie will focus on a mother (Biel) and daughter (Gomez) who must fight for survival on an Earth-like while hiding from a group of relentless hunters. "With the added threat of an imminent and deadly storm, Natalie — now a teenager — begins questioning her mother, Charlie, about who they really are, how they got here, and what they need to do to survive."
Patrick Somerville (HBO Max’s Station Eleven, Netflix’s Maniac) wrote the script with Colleen O’Brien and Katie French.
Producers include Somerville, David Eisenberg and Stephanie Jacob-Goldman through Tractor Beam, John Finemore through Lost City, Mason Novick through MXN Entertainment, and Allen Fischer and Brian Steinberg through Artists First
No release date has been announced, but the movie is expected to start shooting this fall.
