It looks like Tom Hiddleston's Loki won't be the only dark-haired protagonist time-slipping in an upcoming sci-fi show.

Babylon 5 franchise creator, J. Michael Straczynski (Thor, World War Z) is back for more Babylon 5 goodness, with a new animated direct-to-video sequel to the beloved sci-fi franchise. IGN has a new clip that focuses on Bruce Boxleitner's (Tron, Gambler) John Sheridan coming to grips with a looming spaceship assault just as he realizes he's in an alternate reality.

Babylon 5 was a science fiction television series created by J. Michael Straczynski that aired from 1993 to 1998. The show was set in the 22nd century, after humanity had achieved faster-than-light travel and made contact with other spacefaring species. The series followed the human military staff and alien diplomats stationed on Babylon 5, a five-mile-long space station built in neutral territory as a center for galactic diplomacy and trade.

The show's main storyline revolved around a millennial conflict between two ancient races, the Shadows and the Vorlons. The Shadows were a mysterious and powerful race who were manipulating events in the galaxy in order to start a war. The Vorlons were an equally mysterious and powerful race who were trying to stop the Shadows.

Babylon 5 was a critical and commercial triumph, with critics praising its narrative, acting, and (at the time) outstanding production and SFX aspects. It has won numerous awards, including the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form, in 1995 and 1996. Among hardcore sci-fi fans, the show has also been praised by fans for its complex characters, intricate plotting, and serialized storytelling. It is considered to be one of the greatest science fiction television series and space operas of all time.

A reboot of the live-action Babylon 5 series was announced in September 2021 for The CW, however, the network (previously joint-owned by CBS and Warner Bros.) was sold to Nexstar in 2022, leading to uncertainty around whether the reboot would be moving forward.
