This summer, Universal Pictures is set to finally release the epic conclusion to the Jurassic era as two generations unite for the first time. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are joined by Oscar-winner Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill in Jurassic World Dominion, a bold, timely and breathtaking new adventure that will span the globe and highlight a lot of epic dinosaur action.
The original Jurassic Park put the franchise on the map, with set pieces unlike anything we'd seen on screen before 1993. The aforementioned trio made sure we could fall in love with the human characters as well, and they'll reunite for the first time since that movie in Colin Trevorrow's threequel.
Talking to Empire Online, the filmmaker reflected on his attempts to convince Dern and Neill to reprise their roles. "At the beginning of that, [Neill] probably was looking at me with a certain amount of skepticism and side-eye," Trevorrow admits. "I’m not Steven Spielberg. I never will be. And so I really had to start from scratch in convincing these people that I was going to be able to guide them through the return to these characters that mean so much to them."
Neill had high praise for the director, saying he reminded him of Spielberg. Dern, meanwhile, added that "Colin was really keen to make it matter. We discover what it would feel like if these three characters came back together, and how they would feel about each other. And it’s delicious."
With these comments comes a new still from Jurassic World Dominion getting hands-on with a baby Nasutoceratops. Trevorrow clearly plans to keep things practical even in the midst of modern special effects, and that hopefully means this next movie will retain the charm of the original.
Jurassic World Dominion finally roars into theaters on June 10.
