Get ready for a completely fresh and fearsome dino adventure this summer with Jurassic World Rebirth, a film poised to propel the franchise in a bold, haunting new direction as an array of never-before-seen dinosaurs and monstrous creatures wreak havoc on humanity.

At CinemaCon, Universal Pictures showcased exclusive footage of this new blockbuster, bringing director Gareth Edwards onstage alongside stars Scarlett Johansson (“Zora Bennett”) and Mahershala Ali (“Duncan Kincaid”). The trio offered a thrilling preview of the film’s tone and style, emphasizing its commitment to upping the ante on suspense and terror.

Judging by the performance of the last three Jurassic World entries—each surpassing the $1 billion mark—expectations are sky-high that Rebirth will continue the trend. It doesn’t hurt that Johansson, one of Hollywood’s top box-office draws, spearheads the charge. During the presentation, she revealed her lifelong passion for the franchise: “I’ve dreamt of being in a Jurassic movie since I was a kid,” she told the CinemaCon audience. “I even told Steven Spielberg I’d gladly get eaten in the first five minutes if it meant I could be part of this world.” According to Johansson, the creative team made it a priority to “put the scares back into Jurassic,” suggesting that Rebirth aims to channel a more horror-centric vibe.

Attendees were then treated to a sneak peek of key scenes (as reported by THR). One sequence shows scientists in a lab fending off a vicious dinosaur, with one unlucky individual getting devoured. Fans of the original park will be excited to see Jonathan Bailey, Johansson, and Ali return to that ill-fated island, navigating a river in a small boat while pursued by a T-Rex. A snippet of dialogue teases the film’s high stakes: “If we get this DNA, millions of lives are saved,” Bailey’s character says. The footage also spotlights a Mososaurus attacking a boat with the main cast onboard, a massive eyeless beast menacing the group, and a teenager covertly traveling with a baby dinosaur in her backpack.

Additional context from ScreenRant reveals an alarm-gone-wrong in a lab, with one character trapped in a chamber facing off against a mutated dinosaur reminiscent of “the red room” teased in promotional materials. The T-Rex’s watery chase sequence underscores the film’s tension, as do sightings of scenes directly recalling earlier Jurassic installments—like Johansson luring away a raptor-like creature in a nod to Ian Malcolm’s heroics in The Lost World.

With the novel’s original riverboat sequence confirmed, Jurassic World Rebirth looks to celebrate Independence Day with a pulse-pounding, nostalgia-infused spectacle. If the CinemaCon footage is any indication, audiences are in for a roaring good time—and quite possibly a dose of old-school dinosaur-induced fear that the series hasn’t evoked in years.

The cast features Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation; Marriage Story; Black Widow), Mahershala Ali (Moonlight; Green Book; True Detective), Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton; Fellow Travelers; Crashing), Rupert Friend (Homeland; Anatomy of a Scandal; Asteroid City), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer; The Magnificent Seven; 6 Underground), Luna Blaise (Manifest; Fresh Off the Boat; Memoria), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty; The Flight Attendant; City on a Hill), Audrina Miranda (The Big Door Prize; The Legend of Tayos; Antigone), Philippine Velge (Station Eleven; Summer of 85; Foreign Bodies), Bechir Sylvain (Claws; Black Summer; Grown-ish), and Ed Skrein (Deadpool; Midway; Alita: Battle Angel).

Gareth Edwards (The Creator; Rogue One: A Star Wars Story; Godzilla) helmed the feature, with a screenplay from original Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp (Spider-Man; War of the Worlds; Mission: Impossible).

Jurassic World Rebirth roars into theaters July 2!

A new era is born. This summer, three years after the Jurassic World trilogy concluded with each film surpassing $1 billion at the global box office, the enduring Jurassic series evolves in an ingenious new direction with Jurassic World Rebirth.

Anchored by iconic action superstar Scarlett Johansson, Emmy and SAG nominee Jonathan Bailey and two-time Oscar® winner Mahershala Ali, this action-packed new chapter sees an extraction team race to the most dangerous place on Earth, an island research facility for the original Jurassic Park, inhabited by the worst of the worst that were left behind.

Also starring acclaimed international stars Rupert Friend and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, the film is directed by dynamic visualist Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) from a script by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp.

Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

Academy Award® nominee Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure the genetic material. When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on a forbidden island that had once housed an undisclosed research facility for Jurassic Park. There, in a terrain populated by dinosaurs of vastly different species, they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that has been hidden from the world for decades.
