Mad Max: Fury Road marked George Miller's long-awaited return to the post-apocalyptic franchise in 2015, and allowed actors like Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult to show very different sides of themselves.
In the latter's case, the X-Men star - best known for donning blue fur to play Beast - transformed into the War Boy Nux and was among those sent by Immortan Joe to retrieve his five wives from Furiosa. Nux earned his demise as a "man" in the blockbuster, but could his origin story also play out in Miller's upcoming prequel, Furiosa?
During a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Hoult maintained that his character would be too young for a role in the movie and confirmed he won't be making any sort of cameo appearance.
"I knew going into Fury Road, I knew all of Nux's life up until the moment we meet him in that film," the actor explained. "And obviously as a prequel, it's earlier. Nux would've maybe just about been born and I don't think I could play a six-month-old or a year old. It would be a stretch for me."
That's a fair point and these comments put an end to theories we might see the fan-favourite antagonist factor into Miller's prequel story.
Keeping the focus on Anya Taylor-Joy's Furiosa is far from a bad thing, though, and we're sure there will still be plenty of Easter Eggs and cameos to be on the lookout for if you're a longtime fan of the Mad Max franchise.
"As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus," reads the movie's synopsis. "Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home."
As well as Taylor-Joy, the movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tom Burke, Angus Sampson, Nathan Jones, Goran D. Kleut, Quayden Bayles, Angus Sampson, and Shakriya Tarinyawat.
Furiosa is set to be released in theaters on May 24, 2024.
