Mortal Kombat 1, which will serve as both a sequel to MK 11 and a reboot of the iconic fighting game series, is set to hit shelves on September 14, and NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games have now debuted a new live-action trailer featuring none other than Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Dune: Part 2).

In the teaser, we see Bautista's librarian (who may or may not be an avatar of Fire God Liu Kang) rally potential players, who let loose a familiar war cry.

The promo pays homage to the original Mortal Monday commercial that aired in 1993 to promote Mortal Kombat's console launch, and featured the now iconic "MORTAL KOMBAAAAT!" scream.

“I vividly remember the original Mortal Monday commercial, especially the iconic scream," said Bautista in a press release. "That’s what started my journey as a fan of Mortal Kombat, which continues to this day 30 years later. I’m very thrilled and honored to be a part of the game’s legacy.”

Check out the live-action "It's In Our Blood" trailer below, and let us know if you plan on picking up the game when it releases next month.

“With Mortal Kombat 1 we are bringing a reimagined universe to the legendary franchise which has captivated gamers for more than 30 years and continues to top itself,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Games. “The talented team at NetherRealm Studios continues to push the series forward in bold ways that have consistently expanded the global audience, and we believe Mortal Kombat 1 will continue to attract new players as well as thrill our core fans.”

“Mortal Kombat 1 marks a new beginning for the franchise and we couldn’t be more excited to share this original storyline and fresh take on classic characters with our fans,” added Ed Boon, Chief Creative Officer, NetherRealm Studios and Co-Creator of Mortal Kombat. “We’re also introducing our Kameo Fighter system which brings a unique roster of partner characters into the mix, and we are looking forward to showing this feature as well as more new elements of the game very soon.”

I was there for that original Mortal Monday trailer. At first, I was into this new one. But by the end, it was kinda cringy.

I think it was Bautista’s speech. I wish they just kept descending into Mortal Madness. Parents abandoning children, ect, just to scream Mortal Kombat! Instead, Bautista’s speech tries hit an emotional beat that isn’t there. The whole thing is meant to be ridiculous, not Braveheart.
