With Prey now streaming on Hulu, concept artist Alex Gillis has shared some of his alternate designs for the reboot's Predator. These really drive home how different the iconic alien now looks, with the artist sharing Alien vs. Predator - Requiem's Wolf Predator alongside Prey's much smaller Feral Predator to emphasise the change.
"We knew that the design changes would be noticed, and not without controversy," Gillis says. "That's a testament to the brilliance of Stan Winston's original design. Here we are 35 years later still making/watching/loving Predator movies. I'm grateful to have worked on the first one, and the most recent one."
"Here's to the amazing range of bio-diversity on our planet and the Predator Home World," he adds. "I've been to both."
The irony here is that there haven't actually been many complaints regarding this new take on the Predator as the movie has been met with such an overwhelmingly positive response.
We're still waiting on news about a Prey sequel, but common sense says we'll get one at some point. Whether that will take us to the same or different time setting remains to be seen, though whatever comes next, taking the Predator back to basics and scaling down its size isn't necessarily a bad thing.
In our review, we wrapped up by saying, "Prey delivers pure Predator pandemonium, and is the Predator franchise at its best. It's also a much-needed fresh start for the series that allows Amber Midthunder to shine in a role that promises to put her on the map."
As well as offering a better look at the terrifying creature, we also see the bone mask that was used in place of the typical metal one that's been prevalent in the alien's present-day missions.
