Prey was a hit when it launched on Hulu last July, and star Amber Midthunder has now confirmed that sequel talks are underway. The actress played Naru in the reboot, with her Comanche warrior encountering the deadly aliens in that 1700s setting, leading to a vastly different, very exciting, take on a franchise which had grown stale.
Talking at the Critics Choice Awards, Prey's lead star made it clear that, while she can't officially confirm anything at this stage, she's very confident a follow-up is on the way.
"I don’t have a date for you. This is not an announcement, but I’m not saying it is not," Midthunder teased. "We talk all the time about a lot of things and that’s probably one. I’m ready. I loved that experience. I love that movie. And I would be happy to, you know, see where else we can take it."
The end credits pointed to Naru's tribe going to war with an entire army of invading Predators, so it's possible we'll follow that story or jump ahead a few years. Either way, all signs currently point to us remaining in this setting, particularly if Midthunder's comments are any indication.
Since Prey's release on Hulu last summer, there's been an overwhelmingly positive response to the movie. It's the best-reviewed Predator movie according to Rotten Tomatoes, and we're pretty sure sequel news is on the way. Ultimately, that will come down to whether the reboot was a hit in terms of viewership, though we've previous heard that it most definitely was.
In our review last year, we wrapped up by saying, "Prey delivers pure Predator pandemonium, and is the Predator franchise at its best. It's also a much-needed fresh start for the series that allows Amber Midthunder to shine in a role that promises to put her on the map."
Prey is now streaming on Hulu. Do you think we'll get a sequel?
