REBEL MOON Co-Writer Says The Sci-Fi Movie Will "Unleash [Zack Snyder's] Visual Imagination"

There's a lot of excitement surrounding Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon, and if these comments from writer Shay Hatten are any indication, the filmmaker won't be holding back with his vision for the sci-fi story.

We don't anticipate ever seeing filmmaker Zack Snyder return to the DCEU, but that doesn't mean he's leaving blockbusters behind. After delivering a hit for Netflix with Army of the Dead, he's now developing the two-part sci-fi epic Rebel Moon for the streaming platform.

We've had a few glimpses at the movie in recent months, but expect a trailer to potentially debut during Snyder's upcoming "Full Circle" event (which is expected to see him bid a final farewell to DCEU so he can focus on this new franchise).

During a recent interview with Collider, Rebel Moon co-writer Shay Hatten shared a big update on where things stand with the project.

"It's in the can. It's in post-production right now. Zack [Snyder] is editing away, and I've seen bits and pieces of it. I've seen scenes here and there and a cut of the trailer," he teases. "I haven't seen the full movie myself yet, but I'm very, very excited about it."

"I really feel so lucky to get to work with Zack. I tell him this all the time, but 300 was one of the first R-rated movies that I convinced my parents to take me to see in theaters, which I think he hates me saying because it makes me seem super young," Hatten added. "But nevertheless, he's been really an inspiration to me for a long time."

"And I think with Rebel Moon, people will just see that it's him really getting to unleash his visual imagination to the fullest extent. And I think people will really dig it."

Warner Bros. had an issue with Snyder "[unleashing] his visual imagination," so we're sure these comments will be welcomed by many of you. It definitely sounds like we're going to see the director deliver a movie in the way he wants, and this comes after we recently learned of plans for R-Rated extended cuts of both Rebel Moon movies to be released down the line.

In Rebel Moon, when a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, they dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past named Kora to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand.

The movie is set to be released on Netflix on December 22, 2023.
