Late last year, Amazon Studios acquired the extensive film and TV catalogue of legendary Hollywood studio MGM as part of a massive $8.5 billion deal, and it looks like plans are now in place to develop projects based on some major properties.

According to Deadline, Amazon has been "sifting through MGM’s library," and has decided on several titles for film and/or TV development, including Robocop, Stargate, Legally Blonde, Fame, Barbershop, The Magnificent Seven, Pink Panther and The Thomas Crown Affair.

Obviously, two of these will stand out to sci-fi fans!

Apparently, each title is being approached differently, but the current plan is to develop TV shows and movies based on RoboCop and Stargate. It seems the latter will arrive on the big screen first, while a new take on the Future of Law Enforcement is being looked at for a TV series initially.

The first RoboCop movie was released in 1987, and is considered a subversive, satirical classic. It was followed up by several forgettable sequels and a so-so remake in 2014. Stargate also began as a movie in 1994, spawning direct-to-video follow-ups, but the spin-off TV shows were a lot more successful.

The report notes that there are a "complexity of rights" to sort out before anything can officially move forward, so we might be waiting a while for updates.

Didn’t really watch much Stargate outside of the movie which I think I only saw once or twice. I like the OG Robocop, not so much the sequels and haven’t seen the reboot from 2014. At the moment, don’t know what to say about all this.
