There's a lot of excitement for Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa, especially as Charlize Theron's post-apocalyptic warrior was a character who left a lasting impact on fans of the franchise.
The 2015 movie was the first Mad Max film since 1985's Beyond Thunderdome, but the wait for Furioisa - while still just shy of a decade - will have been nowhere near as long. George Miller is back at the helm, of course, and he's enlisted Extraction 2 star Chris Hemsworth to play mysterious villain, Dementus.
He's "a bearded biker warlord" according to GQ, and the actor told the site about his approach to the role after a long stint playing Thor in the MCU.
"I came into that film exhausted. I thought, 'How am I going to get through this?'" Hemsworth admitted. "Week one of rehearsals with [Miller], all of a sudden it was this reigniting of my creative energy."
He added that it was, "by far the best experience of my career, and something I feel the most proud of. It made me think, the work isn’t what’s exhausting, it’s what kind of work it is, and how invested I am in it and if it is challenging in the right ways."
Later calling Miller "masterful," Hemsworth concluded by saying, "I’m on the hunt for more George Millers. Or more of George Miller. If he’ll have me."
We're guessing this will be a one-and-done role for the Australian actor, though there's always a changer Miller had additional prequels planned that could tell more of Dementus's story.
"As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus," reads the movie's synopsis. "Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home."
As well as Hemsworth, the movie stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tom Burke, Angus Sampson, Nathan Jones, Goran D. Kleut, Quayden Bayles, Angus Sampson, and Shakriya Tarinyawat.
Furiosa is set to be released in theaters on May 24, 2024.
