TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS' Surprisingly Short Runtime Has Been Revealed

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' runtime has been revealed, and despite the fact it will feature the Autobots, Decepticons, and Maximals, the movie is considerably shorter than Michael Bay's past efforts.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is now less than a month away from arriving in theaters, and with tickets set to go on sale later today, there's every chance we'll get at least one more trailer before June 9 rolls around.

Serving as a loose sequel to Bumblebee and a prequel to the events of Michael Bay's divisive movies, the hope is that the first live-action meeting between the Autobots and Maximals will deliver a much-needed fresh start for the franchise. However, despite the epic action promised in previous sneak peeks, we won't be spending a huge amount of time with Optimus Prime and company.

According to Collider, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts boasts a mere 117-minute runtime (that's 1 hour and 57 minutes, not including the credits).

Still, despite the surprisingly scant runtime, this latest instalment isn't the franchise's shortest movie. That honour goes to Bumblebee, a spin-off that ran for just 114 minutes with the credits.

This is a departure from Bay's movies which got increasingly longer as they went; Transformers: Age of Extinction, for example, clocked in at 165 minutes! Still, we saw from last year's MCU movies that a runtime of less than 2 hours often means blockbusters will struggle to do the story surrounding all the action justice. We'll see.

"Returning to the action and spectacle that have captured moviegoers around the world," reads the synopsis, "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a '90s globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a whole new breed of Transformer – the Maximals – to the existing battle on earth between Autobots and Decepticons."

The cast is led by Hamilton star Anthony Ramos, with Dominique Fishback, Luna Lauren Vélez, and Tobe Nwigwe joining him. Peter Cullen will once again lend his voice to Optimus Prime, while Ron Perlman has stepped in to play Optimus Primal, the leader of the Maximals.

Peter Dinklage, Liza Koshy, John DiMaggio, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Pete Davidson, and Cristo Fernández also star.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is set to be released in U.S. theatres on June 9, but arrives in the UK slightly earlier on June 8.
