In The Tutor, an in-demand tutor for the East Coast monied elite, Ethan (Garrett Hedlund) lands a high-paying assignment to instruct a billionaire’s son, Jackson (Noah Schnapp), at a remote New York waterfront estate. Almost immediately, Ethan realizes that his student’s interest in his life borders upon obsession.
As tension grows, Jackson’s accusations threaten to expose Ethan’s perceived dark secrets to his girlfriend (Victoria Justice) and the authorities. As sentiment turns against Ethan, it is up to him, and only him, to unearth Jackson’s accusations and prove his innocence.
We recently spoke with Hedlund and Schnapp about their roles in the exciting new thriller from Vertical and took the opportunity to ask the latter about TRON 3. The actor played Samuel "Sam" Flynn in 2010's TRON: Legacy, though we learned earlier this year that Suicide Squad star Jared Leto is expected to lead Joachim Rønning's (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) TRON: Ares.
There have been rumblings for years that Disney will enlist at least some of the last movie's actors, but when we asked Hedlund if he'll be in the next TRON movie, he chose his words carefully.
"Oh goodness, you know…you never know what the future holds," he responds in the video below.
Needless to say, this isn't the confirmation we were hoping for, but it's not exactly a denial either! Talks of a third movie have persisted for years, and after TRON: Legacy underperformed, it appeared the franchise might end there. Some time has now passed, though, and with a new TRON attraction about to open in Disney World, the studio is finally returning to The Grid.
Whether Hedlund will be part of that remains to be seen, but it would be a real shame for the Flynn family to be completely sidelined. Leto might also appreciate the backup, especially as his last starring effort - Morbius - was a critical and commercial flop.
Vertical's The Tutor is set to be released in theaters on March 24, 2023.
