Following a Comic-Con panel in Hall H earlier today, the first teaser has been released for Picard season 3, and we're getting some major Star Trek: The Next Generation vibes.

Filmed back to back with season 2, the show returns next year...as do some familiar names. As you can see, LeVar Burton's Geordi La Forge, Michael Dorn's Worf, Jonathan Frakes' William Riker, Gates McFadden's Dr. Beverly Crusher, Marina Sirtis' Deanna Troi, Jeri Ryan's Seven of Nine, and Michelle Hurd's Raffi will be among those joining Sir Patrick Stewart in the series.

Brent Spiner, who played Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation, is set to return as "an old new character."

"We didn’t want to have cameos, but serious roles," producer Alex Kurtzman told fans in attendance. "At the beginning of the season, the crew is in different places around the galaxy. Slowly we see them come together. Patrick said, 'I want to do this show, I don’t want to repeat old things.'"

Stewart would chime in to say, "I realized that I was beginning to experience Jean-Luc Picard, to a point where I didn’t know where he began and Patrick Stewart left off. I was sold because the emphasis was on, ‘Who is Picard?’ Because we don’t know."

"As far as season 3 is concerned," the legendary actor continued, "he’s having to acknowledge that there was an incident in his youth that had shaken him so profoundly."

This is looking pretty awesome, and as sad as we'll be to say goodbye to the show, it can't get here soon enough. The trailer features dialogue from each returning hero, culminating in a message from Picard himself: "As long as you and your crew remain steadfast...you are never without hope."
