While Lucasfilm has only really started to pull back the curtain on what happened between the events of the Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, we've known for some time that the New Republic's naive belief the Empire had been vanquished is what allowed The First Order to rise.
We once again got to see this government's failings first-hand in today's episode of Ahsoka when Hera Syndulla asked Chancellor Mon Mothma for her help in putting an end to the planned return of Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Yes, Andor star Genevieve O'Reilly reprises the role for a brief cameo which confirms she's now leading the New Republic!
While Thrawn's name strikes fear into her and a group of Senators - including Star Wars Resistance's Hamato Xiono, once again played by Nelson Lee - they ultimately decide not to waste New Republic resources on what's perceived to be Hera's ill-fated hunt for Ezra Bridger.
It's really no surprise the New Republic ultimately fell based on this exchange and Thrawn returning to create the First Order is beginning to look likely.
Elsewhere in the episode, we finally meet young Jacen Syndulla.
The son of Hera and the late Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus, he does indeed have green hair (despite speculation that might have been ditched based on recent merchandise) and tells his mother that he wants to become a Jedi.
There's currently nothing to suggest the boy is Force-sensitive but it feels like this moment is building to something. Here's hoping he doesn't end up training with Luke Skywalker given what became of his students, eh? In all seriousness, given how powerful Kanan was, it would be shocking if Jacen didn't follow in his father's footsteps.
The first three episodes of Ahsoka are now streaming on Disney+.
