Grand Admiral Thrawn will make his long-awaited return (and live-action debut) in Ahsoka, but could a greater threat be somewhere in the shadows?
With just three weeks to go before the latest Star Wars TV series hits Disney+, a new promo has been released which suggests there's "something dark" on the horizon. This may be a reference to Thrawn but bear in mind the series also features a couple of Dark Jedi in Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati.
We've already caught a glimpse of a mysterious Sith Inquisitor who has no real business still being here after the Empire's fall, meaning we can't discount the possibility there are even more sinister forces in play.
Based on previous rumours about what Thrawn has discovered on the fringes of the Galaxy, he may be pulling their strings to restore the Empire. In canon books, we've learned he only started serving Emperor Palpatine to help his fellow Chiss, so there's either more to his mission than meets the eye or he became a true fanatic somewhere along the way.
Check out this new Ahsoka promo below.
Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.
In addition to Rosario Dawson in the title role, the series stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.
Ahsoka was written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Rick Famuyiwa.
Ahsoka will launch exclusively on Disney+ on August 23 with a two-episode premiere.
