Heading into Ahsoka, we're expecting some long-awaited answers for Star Wars Rebels' biggest unanswered questions, but beyond that, there's an awful lot we don't know about the series.
Lucasfilm has done a great job of piquing the interest of fans, with trailers introducing a mysterious new Sith Inquisitor and Baylan Skoll and his apprentice Shin Hati. The former is believed to be yet another Order 66 survivor, but he definitely isn't a Jedi and doesn't appear to be an Inquisitor either.
He is, however, on Grand Admiral Thrawn's side and reveals in this new promo that he has a history with Anakin Skywalker. Ahsoka Tano, however, isn't there to discuss her past and an epic lightsaber battle ensues.
Why is Baylan wielding an orange blade? That's another of those mysteries. If we had to hazard a guess, we may be looking at the Dark Jedi introduced in Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire, with the late Ray Stevenson's character possibly taking the place of insane clone Joruus C'baoth.
Check out this newly released Ahsoka promo below.
Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.
In addition to Rosario Dawson in the title role, the series stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.
Ahsoka was written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Rick Famuyiwa.
Ahsoka will launch exclusively on Disney+ on August 23 with a two-episode premiere.
