Morgan Eslbeth first showed up in The Mandalorian's second season, with the character revealed to be the magistrate of Calodan on the planet Corvus.

We didn't actually expect her to be anything more than a one-and-done antagonist in the Disney+ series, even after her duel with Ahsoka Tano concluded with the former Jedi demanding to know where Thrawn is.

Yes, Grand Admiral Thrawn.

It was a mind-blowing moment which set the stage for Ahsoka, and today's episodes waste no time in showing Baylan Skoll and his apprentice Shin Hati lay waste to the New Republic cruiser that's transporting Elsbeth to prison.

Upon being freed, it's clear she's calling the shots, and we soon learn she is indeed connected to the Nightsisters of Dathomir. They were almost completely wiped out during the Clone Wars and were a powerful clan of magick-wielding females who tapped into the dark side to perform their arcane magicks.

The show confirms she's a longtime ally of Thrawn's and the abilities she shares with her ancestors prove crucial in tracking down the location of the missing Grand Admiral.

It's unclear how Baylan and Shin came to serve Elsbeth, but the former appears to have his own plans...which can only be realised by freeing Thrawn from his unwanted exile.

While theories have run rampant that he may be Heir to the Empire's Joruus C'baoth, there's no indication that's the case as Huyang identifies him as the Jedi Baylan Skoll based on his lightsaber design; however, he's been missing since the end of The Clone Wars so is indeed another Order 66 survivor.

Shin is his apprentice, while that mysterious Sith Inquisitor, Marrok, is still something of a, well, mystery to us. He's a capable warrior and neither episode does much to debunk theories that a brainwashed Ezra Bridger is beneath the helmet (it's still possible he returned, was captured, and then revealed Thrawn's location).

In the closing moments of "Toil and Trouble," Baylan says it would be a shame to kill Ahsoka as there are so few Jedi left, making it hard to figure out where his loyalties lie. We think it's safe to say he's no Jedi, though. At least not anymore.

We'll see what happens, but you can now watch the first two episodes of Ahsoka on Disney+.
