The fifth episode of Ahsoka is now streaming on Disney+, and we still have two sure-to-be eventful chapters to go before this first season wraps up. However, a new rumor doing the rounds online is claiming that a second season is already in development.

According to industry insider Daniel RPK (via Patreon), not only has a sophomore run for The Mandalorian spin-off been green-lit, but work on the second batch of episodes had begun prior to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes kicking off.

In many ways, this really isn't that surprising. So far, The Mandalorian is the only Disney+ Star Wars show to get a second season (Andor also has another on the way), but with the events of Ahsoka playing out in the same time period and Dave Filoni building towards his movie (which is expected to serve as a culmination of his streaming series), a second season of Ahsoka always seemed likely.

Episode 5, "Shadow Warrior," concluded with Ahsoka and Huyang travelling to parts unknown in the mouth of a giant interdimensional space whale known as a Purrgil (yes, this really is Star Wars Rebels season 5) in the hopes of finding their long-lost friend Ezra Bridger and preventing the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

We're not sure how things are going to play out over the next two episodes (though there are some rumors out there), but we'd say there's a good chance Thrawn will make his way back to his own galaxy in the finale, setting things up for a second season.

Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

The series stars Rosario Dawson in the title role, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, with Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.

Kevin Kiner was announced as the series' composer.

Ahoska is written by executive producer Dave Filoni, alongside executive producers Favreau, Kennedy, Wilson, and Beck. Gilchrist is co-executive producer. The series’ directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel and Rick Famuyiwa.
