AHSOKA Season 2 Plans Reportedly Depend On The Show's Viewership Numbers

While Star Wars fans are already getting excited about the prospect of Ahsoka season 2, a new report suggests the show's future is by no means set in stone and will hinge on all-important viewership numbers.

Since The Mandalorian launched alongside Disney+ in 2019, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have created their own corner of the Star Wars Universe which is now made up of multiple projects.

The Book of Boba Fett followed that series in the post-Return of the Jedi timeline (recently dubbed "The New Republic" era), while this year will see the launch of Skeleton Crew and Ahsoka. In the latter's case, we'll pick up with former Jedi Ahsoka Tano for a Star Wars Rebels sequel that should further lay the groundwork for Dave Filoni's upcoming movie.

That's going to serve as an epic crossover event - and perhaps conclusion - for these Star Wars TV shows, though we expect more seasons of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka to be released before then.

However, the latter's future is by no means set in stone.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "a possible second season of Ahsoka...is not a given and would depend on the performance of the first season." We find it hard to imagine the show being anything other than a hit, but it will be crucial for Filoni to make it accessible to viewers without an encyclopedic knowledge of Rebels and The Clone Wars.

He's certainly assembled an impressive team of directors to work on the show, though, and that teaser trailer has received an overwhelmingly positive response thus far.

Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

In addition to lead star Rosario Dawson, the series features Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, and Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn. Ahsoka is written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Karen Gilchrist is co-executive producer.

Ahsoka is set to debut exclusively on Disney+ in August 2023.
