Did Ezra Bridger's time stranded in another galaxy result in him losing his bottle?
It seems like a strange question to ask given the heroics we saw from the young Jedi in the final two episodes of Ahsoka, but his actions at the end of the recent season finale could be interpreted as being pretty cowardly.
After battling their way through a legion of undead Night Troopers, Ezra and Sabine arrive just moments too late to board Grand Admiral Thrawn's Star Destroyer and attempt to prevent him from returning to their home galaxy. Ezra does manage to infiltrate the ship with the aid of a force-push from Sabine, and instead of confronting the villain and doing his best to hinder his escape, he... disguises himself as a Stormtrooper and retreats.
Keep in mind, the entire point of this mission - and Ahsoka, Sabine and Huyang travelling to this uncharted galaxy in the first place - was to ensure that Thrawn and his army could not make the jump back and wage another war against the Rebellion. Yes, Ezra was vastly outnumbered, but would having Sabine by his side really have made that much difference at the end of the day? Surely both heroes knew they would be facing superior forces when they decided to leap on to the ship in the first place, so why did Ezra suddenly decide not to do his very best to go it alone and take out Thrawn, or at least try to sabotage the ship?
One possibility is, yes, he cravenly decided that he'd rather hitch a ride home and not potentially give his life by fighting a losing battle - but we can't imagine this is what we were supposed to take away from the episode, so a more likely explanation is it's simply an inconsistency in the narrative as a result of lazy writing.
But hey, maybe this was Dave Filoni's plan all along, and we will see Ahsoka and Sabine chastise their friend for not doing something to prevent Thrawn's return in season 2 (don't count on it).
