Ahsoka is shaping up to be a much different series from what we expected, and while it's still set to serve as a follow-up to Star Wars Rebels, it also seems to be setting the stage for even bigger stories in this corner of the Galaxy.
We recently learned that there will be a time-jump around the midway point, with the first four episodes following Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren as they butt heads with The New Republic and the second batch focused on Ezra Bridger's return. There will obviously be more to both halves of the season than that, but details are still sketchy...well, for the most part.
According to Making Star Wars, The Mandalorian villain Morgan Elsbeth - who first appeared in "Chapter 13: The Jedi" - will be a big part of Ahsoka, likely appearing in every episode.
It was when Ahsoka defeated Elsbeth that we first learned the former Jedi was hunting Grand Admiral Thrawn, though we never got to see what became of her. Well, this show reportedly follows Elsbeth's attempts to retrieve the Imperial, with a plan to extract resources capable of taking her to him said to be the main reason she was on Corvus in the first place.
The villain is supposedly aligned with mysterious Force users Baylon and Shin, and they accompany her to find Thrawn in the second half of this opening season. In fact, the site believes she could even be a Nightsister (which lines up with any number of fan theories), and as Ahsoka takes place before, during, and after that episode of The Mandalorian, her fate after that duel ended will soon be revealed.
As for why she needs Thrawn - who remains trapped in the far reaches of the Galaxy thanks to Ezra - it seems there's a much bigger plan at play, and we can't help but wonder whether that's linked to what Moff Gideon has been up to. After all, we know a lot of work went into attempts to resurrect the fallen Emperor Palpatine and Thrawn might be behind that or even the First Order's formation.
The site adds, "To reiterate, the story is about a witch armed with two ex-Jedi who head to an unknown region in a vessel that took some effort to build on Corvis and somehow Ahsoka and Sabine follow the Nightsister and her allies there...I speculate that during the first half of the series, Ahsoka will take information about Morgan to Mon Mothma and The New Republic who will be unable to offer adequate assistance."
When Thrawn does finally escape, we're guessing it will set the stage for a new wave of stories that play out across all these TV shows. Heck, it may well be leading to Din Djarin, Ahsoka Tano, Luke Skywalker, Ezra Bridger, and more all coming together to put an end to this villain and delay Palpatine's eventual return. That sounds like movie material to us.
