In an extended trailer for Ahsoka shared exclusively with those at Star Wars Celebration last month, Natasha Liu Bordizzo's Sabine Wren was shown wielding a green lightsaber.
This isn't the first time the character has held one of those blades, of course, as she frequently used Ezra Bridger's lightsaber in Star Wars Rebels while training to master the Darksaber.
Seeing that in live-action is exciting for fans, though this obviously means Ezra has been minus his weapon during the time he's spent lost in the galaxy alongside Grand Admiral Thrawn. Now, Bordizzo has opened up about getting hands-on with a lightsaber while shooting the Disney+ series.
"I'm just really glad that's out there," the actress tells Empire. "It's been really hard talking about my fight training without talking about the fact that it's 'saber training, which is literally all I've been doing for so long. The Mandalorian [physicality] is very Western, and then the 'saber style is very samurai-influenced."
"Trying to embody those two things - sometimes one right after the other - in the choregraphy was super interesting, because they're such different modes of being. I really had fun with the journey of trying to master both."
"What can I tease?" Bordizzo continued, doing her best to avoid divulging any spoilers. "It's just part of her journey. Not just the 'saber itself, but what comes with that, and what that means, and what mindset it takes to wield that weapon."
We're definitely intrigued to see how Sabine's story continues, especially as she's a little older and quite a bit more battle-hardened based on what we've seen in the trailer. Having a lightsaber should help the Mandalorian fend off enemies, but remember, she isn't a Jedi. That could spell trouble for her when she comes up against the mysterious Baylan and Shin!
Ahsoka is set to premiere on Disney+ sometime this August.
