It was The Hollywood Reporter that first broke the news about Hayden Christensen's role in Ahsoka, though it's something neither Disney nor Lucasfilm has ever officially commented on.
His presence in the Disney+ series has, however, been strongly hinted at on more than one occasion, with a recent promo featuring new Clone Wars-era dialogue from the actor. With that, the Obi-Wan Kenobi star's latest return to this franchise was all but confirmed.
Today, StarWarsNews.net is reporting that this September will see the launch of a new Star Wars title, Master and Apprentice: A Special Look at Ahsoka.
"Disney+ will also air new episodes of Star Wars: Ahsoka, which follow Ahsoka Tano as she investigates a threat to the galaxy, every Wednesday with episodes 4 through 7 airing in September," reads the official description. "On September 15, audiences can watch how the series continues Star Wars' legacy in Master & Apprentice: A Special Look at Ahsoka."
That's all we know right now, but the timing of this special's launch on the streamer is definitely noteworthy.
It coincides with the fifth episode of Ahsoka, an instalment we recently learned will be directed by showrunner Dave Filoni. That alone suggests it will feature some huge lore-building moments and Christensen's return as Anakin for live-action flashbacks to The Clone Wars would very much fit the bill.
If recent rumours are to be believed, we're guessing this will also be when we see Christensen as Darth Vader again. As his and Ahsoka Tano's history as Master and Padawan, along with her eventual dual with the Sith Lord, have only been covered in animation, it makes sense to better explain their past to viewers who never watched The Clone Wars or Star Wars Rebels with this special.
The first two episodes of Ahsoka premiere on Disney+ this Tuesday, August 22.
