Thanks to Empire, we have a new look at Andor season 2 and the first official shot of Ben Mendelsohn's returning Orson Krennic. The season 1 finale teased the Death Star's construction and this suggests we should expect a deeper dive into how the Empire's greatest weapon came to be.
Also featured are Diego Luna's Cassian Andor and Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma, with the latter being someone we learned a lot more about during Andor's debut season.
There are still several months to go until Andor returns to Disney+, so we're not necessarily expecting this magazine feature to be followed by a trailer (especially as Lucasfilm will likely want to keep the spotlight on Skeleton Crew for the time being). We do, however, expect to see more from the series in Empire's upcoming coverage.
"Oh man, when I read season one, I pinched myself, and when I started reading season two, I was like, ‘[Tony Gilroy] can’t outdo [season one].’ I was again like, ‘It’s not going to be as good.’ But it’s [frick]ing better. It’s so much better. It is," Bix Caleen actor Adria Arjona said earlier this year. "What he has crafted and created is mind-blowing, and I can’t believe I got to be a part of it."
Andor season 2 picks up with Cassian Andor and the emerging rebel alliance over the climactic four years that lead to the discovery of The Death Star and the events of Rogue One.
Season 1 followed Cassian’s reluctant journey from cynical nobody to revolutionary volunteer. Season 2 will see him transform from soldier to leader to hero on the way to his epic destiny. From the very first scene, Cassian’s story has activated an ever-widening ensemble of allies and enemies.
Andor's 12 episodes will see these relationships intensify as the horizon of galactic war draws near. Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas will become profound.
Here's a sneak peek at what's to come when Andor returns on April 22, 2025:
A new poster for this December's Skeleton Crew has also been released by Disney and Lucasfilm. Putting Jude Law front and centre, it offers a suitably retro vibe for the next "Star Wars Adventure."
