Andor may not have been as splashy as The Mandalorian or Obi-Wan Kenobi, but it made a huge impact when it premiered on Disney+ in 2022. Receiving widespread critical acclaim, the show delved into a new side of this Galaxy Far, Far Away to tell a deeply personal, hard-hitting story.
Stellan Skarsgård blew us all away as the Rebel leader Luthen Rael and recently spoke to Games Radar about his role as the twisted Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in Dune: Part 2.
Pushed for details on what fans can expect from the second and final season of Andor, he said, "It's the last season of it. It ends where Rogue One starts so it’s up to that point. I think it will be very good as already the first one was satisfying for me because it’s sort of Star Wars for grown-ups."
"It’s a more realistic and complicated society that they’re living in and the claustrophobia of the fascist regime is palpable," Skarsgård continued. "I think we have a good season ahead of us."
The plan had been for Andor season 2 to premiere on Disney+ this August, but the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes caused major shooting delays, However, Skarsgård seems confident we'll see the show back on our screens either later this year or early 2025.
"It will probably be out towards the end of the year or early next," the actor said, strongly hinting it will join Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte as this year's new live-action Star Wars TV shows.
Andor's next batch of episodes will chronicle the next steps in Cassian's journey as he fights to assemble a fledgling resistance. Kathleen Kennedy, Tony Gilroy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna and Luke Hull are executive producing the upcoming season, which stars Diego Luna, Adria Arjona, Kyle Soller, Denise Gough, Genevieve O’Reilly, Andy Serkis, Muhannad Bahair and Joplin Sibtain.
"Today is the last day of filming Andor," Luna said on Instagram earlier this month. "I could not be more thankful to the entire crew for this amazing experience and the years of hard work."
"More than 700 people have worked on this production, and it is impossible to say goodbye and thank you to everyone individually, which is why I write here. Thank you for the love and the wonderful experience. See you soon."
