Disneyland’s STAR WARS: GALAXY'S EDGE Welcomes Original Trilogy Characters and Music Beginning in April

Disney is abandoning its strict sequel-era rule for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland, and will soon begin incorporating characters, music, and storylines from the entire Star Wars timeline.

Disneyland is expanding the timeline for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, allowing for characters, music, and storylines inspired by the original trilogy of movies. Beginning April 29, 2029, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland park will introduce updates that allow for park visitors to experience different eras of Star Wars.

Up until now, the storyline behind Galaxy's Edge was primarily set during the Age of Resistance and First Order era, between Episode VIII: The Last Jedi and Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. This made sense at the time of its opening, as Disney was hoping to capitalize on the release of the latest trilogy of films. But the decision to strictly follow the sequel-era rule ultimately meant that fan-favorite characters and storylines from the iconic original trilogy, or any other Star Wars property, could not really be featured.

In the end, it seems like Disney cares more about appeasing fans and giving them what they've wanted for years: experiences based on the original trilogy of movies. Black Spire Outpost will now feature characters from across the Star Wars timeline, as well as new props and graphics, musical selections, and more.

"Each era will be brought to life with the same care and attention to detail that the land was originally designed with, masterfully weaving together stories from across time and space in one location," the Disney Parks Blog states.

Confirmed characters from the original timeline include Darth Vader, who will be joined by Imperial Stormtroopers, as they search for Luke Skywalker across Batuu. Leia Organa, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca can also be found across Black Spire Outpost. Luke will roam around the outpost seeking knowledge of the Force, while Leia and Han will be found near the Millennium Falcon.

Ahsoka Tano and The Mandalorian and Grogu are also coming and will be found near the marketplace. R2-D2 will also roll around.

The inclusion of the original trilogy isn't the end for the Age of Resistance and First Order storyline in Galaxy's Edge. Rey will still continue to represent the latest trilogy and will be found near the Resistance camp.

The music is also being updated to include the iconic "Main Title" and Force Theme as you enter Galaxy's Edge through the tunnel. The catchy "Cantina Band" tune will be played from within Oga's Cantina, while other classic tracks including “Han Solo and the Princess,” “The Desert and the Robot Auction,” “The Emperor” and more, will be heard throughout the land.

At this point, the expanded Star Wars timeline for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge has only been confirmed for Disneyland, but as someone with Disney World annual passes, I'm hoping the change is also made to Hollywood Studios. I'm not sure how everyone else feels, but I never needed Galaxy's Edge to take place during a particular time in the Star Wars franchise. I just wanted to experience all of the epicness that is Star Wars, even if that meant young Luke Skywalker is just feet away from Rey. Are you excited about the changes coming to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge?
