KINGSMAN Star Taron Egerton Reveals Exactly How Close He Came To Playing Han Solo; "I Got On The Falcon"

2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story was by no means a bad movie, but it didn't quite live up to expectations. Behind the scenes issues saw Lucasfilm fire directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller midway through production, with Ron Howard enlisted to finish the movie in time for its planned May release.

That led to something of a muted marketing campaign, and even in the wake of movies that earned billions of dollars, Disney couldn't generate excitement for this spinoff revolving around the iconic character.

Underwhelming box office numbers followed, and while many fans have remained hopeful for a sequel, neither that nor the promised Lando Disney+ series appear to be on the way. Alden Ehrenreich had the impossible task of following in Harrison Ford's footsteps, and while he did a great job, it was always going to be tough living up to his predecessor.

Of course, Ehrenreich wasn't the only actor in the running and Kingsman star Taron Egerton was among those who were also considered to play Han.

Talking in the video below, the actor confirms he took himself out of the running, but not before he came extremely close to heading to a Galaxy Far, Far Away. "I felt that that's...I'll be honest, I got on the Falcon. I was with Chewie. I was in the full costume," Egerton reveals. "I felt like I got there, I did it, I lived it, and there was another round that I decided not to do."

"It's far enough in the past now I feel I can say that. It just felt, to me, I didn't feel it. You're following Harrison Ford. No one ever wants to follow Harrison Ford."

Ehrenreich learned that the hard way, though he does now look set to bounce back with a role in Marvel Studios' Ironheart. Many Star Wars fans hope to see him get another shot at playing the young Han, but Lucasfilm is seemingly moving away from recasting its most famous characters.
