LANDO: Lucasfilm President Explains Why There's "No Movement" On The Show: "You Need To Ask Donald"

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has shared an update on plans for Lando on Disney+, but oddly seems to suggest that Donald Glover is the reason the series still hasn't materialised since it was announced.

During a Disney Investor Day at the end of 2020, Lucasfilm made a number of big Star Wars announcements. Somewhat embarrassing is the fact that quite a few of them haven't become a reality; Rangers of the New Republic was scrapped when Gina Carano was fired, Rogue Squadron appears to have reached a standstill, and there's still no sign of Lando.

The latter was set to star Donald Glover, with the actor reprising his role as Lando Calrissian from 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story. Talking to Cinema Blend at Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy shared an update on the Disney+ series...but it was a weird one.

"You need to ask Donald," the executive responded when asked why the show hasn't materialised. "He's the one that holds all the cards here. But there's no movement. I will say that honestly. But it's not for lack of trying. It's just that he's a very busy guy. He's got another series, and I think one other thing, and then he'll come our way. So patiently waiting."

This is a strange update from Kennedy as she appears to be shifting blame for the delay onto Glover, only to then suggest Lando will happen down the line.

We're not sure if creative differences or something along those lines is the issue here, but this feels like another Star Wars project unlikely to happen under Kennedy's leadership. She's not wrong about Glover being busy, though, as he's got a fourth and final season of Atlanta in the pipeline along with the Mr. and Mrs. Smith reimagining for Amazon.

Hopefully, the series does happen, but we don't anticipate getting another update for a while.
