Obi-Wan Kenobi ran for six episodes on Disney+, but there were once plans for it to be a movie. That project's writer, Stuart Beattie, has recently shared some insights into some of the differences between his script and what ended up on screen, though this sequence being scrapped might have dealt the biggest blow of them all.
During an interview with The Direct, Beattie was asked if there's anything else he would have specifically liked to see from his script included in the limited series. Describing a fun scene involving Ben Kenobi, Clone Commander Cody, and some dead Stormtroopers, the writer confirmed plans to visit an iconic Tatooine locale.
"The fun one that I missed the most was a scene back on Tatooine with Cody. My Cody was so fun. Cody was with Owen and there were some bounty hunters that had discovered Obi-Wan and they've got to get rid of the bodies," he explains. "There was this really fun scene where, you know, what do you do with bodies on Tatooine and you need to get rid of them?"
"Well, you go out to the local Sarlacc, right? They kind of park and they’re having this whole discussion about, you know, Cody shooting Obi-Wan and all this kind of stuff."
"But as they’re doing it, they’re just tossing these bodies into the Sarlacc pit, and the Sarlacc’s eating them, right? In the middle of doing this, this other speeder comes up and they get their guns ready. And these guys see them," Beattie continued. "And everyone’s like frozen, like, ‘Are we gonna kill each other?’ But then the guys open their trunk and they’ve got Stormtroopers that they want to throw in the Sarlacc. And so they start throwing!"
The writer would go on to say that the scene culminated with a drunk Jawa who rocked up in a massive speeder. While viewers would have expected a massive alien to emerge from that, the tiny creature was instead going to tumble out and shove a gigantic dead alien into the Sarlacc. Ultimately, Beattie says he just wanted to show a fun side to the iconic planet.
It's easy enough to see why this didn't make it into the Obi-Wan Kenobi we watched as there was no Cody in that and there was really nothing "fun" about Ben's time on Tatooine. As a result, a scene like this might have been more depressing than funny, hence why it was probably left on the cutting room floor and never added to the show's new scripts.
