OBI-WAN KENOBI Director Deborah Chow Teases Possible Season 2 Plans: "Never Say Never"

Obi-Wan Kenobi director Deborah Chow has weighed in on possible season 2 plans for the popular Star Wars TV series, and seems to suggest another batch of episodes could eventually become a reality on Disney+.

Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered on Disney+ last year to much fanfare, and while the series wasn't perfect, it did a great job of filling in the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope

The show even found a way to pit Obi-Wan against Darth Vader, but with another decade between that moment and the fateful day Luke Skywalker found his way to Ben's hut in the desert, there's clearly room for more stories. The question is, will those ever be told?

Deadline recently spoke to Obi-Wan Kenobi director and executive producer Deborah Chow, and asked if she's planning to head back to this corner of the Galaxy Far, Far Away.

"This was conceived as a limited series; it is closed," the filmmaker confirmed before leaving us with at least a little hope by adding, "There’s 10 more years before New Hope, so never say never."

During the same conversation, Chow reflected on the stresses that making Obi-Wan Kenobi during the pandemic presented. "It was pretty intense," she admits. "Anything with background was always stressful because we had little Leia [Vivien Lyra Blair] running around...we didn’t get shut down."

The full podcast interview is well worth a listen, but to go back to those season 2 comments, it's hard to believe it won't happen somewhere down the line.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has made it clear there are no current plans, likely in an effort to temper expectations. However, Star Wars remains a big draw on Disney+, and even with the streamer looking to curb spending, another batch of episodes would surely be a worthwhile expense.

Alternatively, a movie might be fun, but Obi-Wan Kenobi ended in a somewhat definitive fashion and it would be a shame to tell another story just for the sake of it. However, if they can find the right tale to tell, that would be no bad thing.
