OBI-WAN KENOBI Director Teases "Surprises" For Fans And Reveals Whether We Could Get A Season 2

Obi-Wan Kenobi director Deborah Chow has promised that fans can look forward to some big surprises in the Disney+ series while revealing whether we should expect the show to get an eventual second season.

Heading into Obi-Wan Kenobi, we know the Jedi will clash with Darth Vader, but will we also finally learn how "Ben" learned to master immortality with the help of Qui-Gon Jinn? Fans remain hopeful for a cameo appearance from Liam Neeson, and while director Deborah Chow refused to confirm or deny anything during a recent interview with Games Radar, she did promise some big surprises.

"Obi-Wan’s going on a journey," the filmmaker initially responded. "There’s going to be different people that come into his life. One of the things I was trying to do with this series was to have the legacy, and who is important in Obi-Wan’s life, and to also have some new characters. So it’s going to be a mixture of the two. But I do think there are some surprises to come. I hope."

Based on other recent comments from Chow, that won't include an appearance from Darth Maul. However, there are bound to be other familiar faces who make their presence felt in the limited series.

Of course, the nature of a "limited series" is that it's a one-off, and Obi-Wan Kenobi has been billed as such. Does that mean this is the end for Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan? "We really did conceive this like a beginning, middle, and end," Chow says. "It is one big story, and it was always meant to be. You can never tell what happens in the future. But, if another series were to happen, it would be the same process of making sure that there was a real story to tell."

"Ours is obviously very connected to the prequels," she continued, "but I love the idea that there can be more stories that are all over the timeline."

That's an intriguing comment, and we can't help but wonder if there are other stories to tell in the twenty-year period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. This tale is clearly meant to be self-contained, though, and we're just excited to see what it adds to this Galaxy Far, Far Away.

The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi arrive on Disney+ on May 27.
