ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY Director Gareth Edwards Reveals Whether Jyn Erso Is Force-Sensitive

There's long been speculation about whether Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's Jyn Erso could be a Jedi. While she doesn't wield a lightsaber or use the Force, the Rebel's mother giving the young Jyn a Kyber Crystal was taken as a hint by many that either mother or child might be Force-sensitive.

Filmmaker Gareth Edwards has recently been doing the rounds to discuss his critically acclaimed new sci-fi movie The Creator and was asked by The Direct whether Jyn really is Force-sensitive.

"I don't know," he admitted. "I mean, I see the Force as, like, a religion, obviously. And it's like, you might tell a child, 'Have faith in God.' It doesn't mean that they're the Messiah."

"So, it's kind of, I see it like, you can believe in this idea that there's something greater than us; there's a destiny of some sort," Edwards added. "But [you] don't have to be the second coming of Christ to do something great with your life."

This is a far more convincing explanation than Jyn being unaware of her connection to the Force, though we can't help but think it would have made sense for Galen Erso to turn on the Empire because his wife was a Jedi in hiding.

The possibility of Jyn being a Jedi has become a big talking point in recent weeks due to the fact Ahsoka has put a vastly different spin on the Force. In the Disney series, Ahsoka Tano has been training Sabine Wren in the ways of the Jedi despite the fact she shows no obvious signs of being Force-sensitive.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was released in 2016. Edwards directed the movie from a screenplay by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy based on a story by John Knoll and Gary Whitta.

The main cast consists of Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen, and Forest Whitaker. Set a week before Star Wars: A New Hope, the plot follows a group of rebels who band together to steal plans of the Death Star, the ultimate weapon of the Galactic Empire. It details the Rebel Alliance's first effective victory against the Empire, first referenced in Star Wars' opening crawl.

With an estimated production budget of at least $220 million, it is one of the most expensive films ever made, but grossed over $1 billion worldwide, making it the 20th-highest-grossing film of all time and the second-highest-grossing film of 2016 during its theatrical run. It received two Academy Award nominations for Best Sound Mixing and Best Visual Effects.
