Star Wars: A New Hope is, by and large, considered the perfect hero's journey. But even the best-told stories can feel a bit one-sided depending on how they're told.
What if the events of A New Hope were experienced through the eyes of other characters? That's exactly what Lucasfilm is exploring with the newly announced graphic novel Star Wars: A New Hope – Triple Take.
Announced during the Lucasfilm Publishing panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Star Wars: A New Hope – Triple Take retells the events of A New Hope through the perspectives of each of the film's three main heroes. The story will unfold three different times, as seen through the eyes of Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo.
Naturally, each character's personality will shape how they remember the events. Luke's version will embrace the classic hero's journey, filled with destiny and wonder. Leia's perspective will focus on the harsh realities of leading a rebellion against the Empire. Han's retelling, meanwhile, will lean into his trademark wit and oversized ego, painting himself as the galaxy's greatest hero.
It's a unique approach to a story as iconic as Star Wars, allowing the authors to play with the idea of unreliable narrators rather than having to change the actual canon.
Published by Mad Cave Studios, Star Wars: A New Hope – Triple Take is written by Kim Shearer and Chas! Pangburn, with four different artists contributing to the graphic novel. The varied art styles will help visually distinguish each character's perspective.
Star Wars: A New Hope - Triple Take is scheduled to release in May 2027.
