Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have borrowed a little too much from A New Hope, but it's fair to say no one expected Harrison Ford's Han Solo to meet his maker. And we definitely didn't anticipate it coming at the hands of the iconic character's son, Kylo Ren.
While Ford shared the screen with Carrie Fisher's Leia Organa, Han's death closed the door on the franchise's three leads (the other being Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker, of course) ever standing side-by-side again. Needless to say, it's still a perplexing creating decision on Lucasfilm's part.
Still, the moment itself was a powerful one and it's also a scene which continues to follow actor Adam Driver.
Talking to CNN Entertainment, the Ferrari star said, "Somebody reminds me about that every day." Asked if he was serious, Driver added, "Not every day, but yeah. It used to be more but now it’s probably once a month someone will let me know that I killed Han Solo."
"I remember shooting that day, and it didn’t feel like that at all, obviously," he added. "John Williams wasn’t playing in the background." The actor went on to say it didn't feel "tough" but was still "very emotional shooting it with Harrison."
"Harrison was so generous and contemplative, and to me that was a great moment on set, even though it was his death."
Kylo Ren reunited with his father in The Rise of Skywalker for a conversation which put the Supreme Leader of the First Order back on the right path. Ultimately, he sacrificed himself to save Rey, ending the Skywalker bloodline in the process. As of now, it's unclear whether Driver will ever reprise the role.
There is an upcoming movie set to put the spotlight on Daisy Ridley's Rey, though, so Ben Solo showing up as a Force Ghost isn't outside the realm of possibility.
In 2017, Driver talked more about shooting one of the Star Wars franchise's most impactful moments.
"The people behind me, when the scroll started, were like ‘Oh my god. Oh my god. It’s happening.’ Immediately, I thought I was going to puke," he recalled. "I was holding my wife’s hand, and she’s like, ‘You’re really cold. Are you OK?’ Because I just knew what was coming - I kill Harrison - and I didn’t know how this audience of 2,000 people was going to respond to it, you know?"
