Earlier today, Disney+ released a new trailer for Andor that, quite frankly, makes the show look nothing short of essential viewing. It was certainly a big upgrade from that understated Star Wars Celebration teaser, but hidden among the press release is a very disappointing change to the Rogue One spinoff's premiere date.
While the plan had been for the first two episodes of the 12-part series to arrive on August 31, we're now getting a three-part premiere on September 21.
There's no explanation for the delay, though it may be telling that this is after Disney+ Day and D23. Both events will give Lucasfilm the chance to promote Andor one final time ahead of its premiere, an opportunity they wouldn't have had if it dropped at the end of this month as planned.
With this disappointing update comes a very revealing batch of stills that highlight a number of key moments from the new trailer, including the surprise return of Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera. Even five years before the events of Rogue One, it looks like he's losing his marbles. Elsewhere, we see Cassian in an Imperial uniform, Death Troopers, and some intriguing new locations.
Andor explores a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved.
It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.
Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor and is joined by cast members Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller and Fiona Shaw. The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Tony Gilroy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna and Michelle Rejwan. Tony Gilroy is also the creator and showrunner.
