Last month, we learned that Star Wars: The Phantom Menace will return to theaters for its 25th anniversary on May 3. However, if a new report from Covered Geekly is to be believed, it won't be alone.
According to the site, 4K restorations of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith will hit theaters on May 5. The day before, which is more commonly known as May The Fourth among Star Wars fans, will see A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi all back on the big screen.
Of course, before getting too excited, it's worth noting that these 4K versions of the movies have been available to watch at home for some time courtesy of Disney+.
Still, for many fans out there, this will be their first chance to watch most, if not all of these Star Wars movies, in theaters. You'll notice that the sequel trilogy isn't getting a re-release, but that's to be expected given the mixed response they received (they're also recent enough that a re-release seems unnecessary).
"It’s been a remarkable experience. And just a very heartwarming one," Anakin Skywalker actor Hayden Christensen recently said of his Star Wars return. "The journey that I’ve been on with Star Wars over the last 20 plus years...it’s been a wild ride, and where we’re at now is really meaningful to me."
"I think that [the prequels] have held up well over time," he continued. "It feels like vindication for the work that we did. Everyone that worked on those movies thought that we were part of something special. We all wanted to do our very best work, and we cared a lot about it. And so to see the response from the fans now, it’s very cool."
It's that response from younger fans which really seems to resonate with Christensen, and despite the Jedi's eventual descent into villainy as Darth Vader, the fact his character killed those Jedi younglings has done nothing to put them off meeting him.
"There was a lot of talk about us doing that scene, and I love that George did it. It was a bold move. And it’s shocking," the actor says. "Kids seem to forget about that scene when they meet me! There’s not any fear or intimidation. They’re just excited to meet Anakin."
Which of these Star Wars movies will you be checking out in theaters this May?
