It's been a long time since we had any solid updates on Lucasfilm's plans for the Galaxy Far, Far Away on the big screen, and we had been led to believe that major announcements were planned for Star Wars Celebration this April.
We may still be some news, but it sounds like we're going to be waiting quite a while longer for another Star Wars movie.
Variety has published a new report on Disney/Lucasfilm's plans for the franchise, and their sources believe that Marvel Studios' boss Kevin Feige's mysterious project has now joined Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron on the shelf.
The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson does still want to see his idea for a new trilogy to fruition, but his work on the Knives Out films and Poker Face is expected to keep him busy for the foreseeable future.
Taika Waititi's movie is still in-development, but is the only big-screen project currently greenlit, and probably won't arrive in theatres until 2025 at the earliest. Plot details are still under wraps, but the trade reports that the Thor: Love and Thunder director is keen to play a role in the film.
Apparently, the studio is also committed to a Star Wars movie from director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Saving Face, A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness), who helmed two episodes of 2022’s Ms. Marvel for Disney+.
On the streaming side of things, it's still full steam ahead, but Variety notes that Ahsoka is not expected to premiere late summer.
