After Lucasfilm announced three new Star Wars movies at this past April's Celebration in London, fans are understandably eager to learn more about what each of them has in store for this Galaxy Far, Far Away.
Whether it's James Mangold's project set during the "Dawn of the Jedi," Dave Filoni's rumoured "Heir to the Empire" adaptation, or Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Rey movie, they're all incredibly exciting. In the latter's case, we recently unearthed what might have been an early plot synopsis for the project.
Well, StarWarsNews.net has since weighed in to reveal that a studio source has told them the synopsis isn't accurate.
Apparently, it doesn't represent the story which Knight was working on prior to the WGA strike, leaving us to wonder whether it may, in fact, be an indication of what Damon Lindelof had planned for the project before he parted ways with Lucasfilm.
As for the apparent New Jedi Order title, that's said to be a working title and not what we'll see adorning posters and trailers a couple of years from now.
So, a disheartening update in some ways but one which at least clarifies what's happening.
We recently learned that Disney and Lucasfilm are still planning to get cameras rolling by next April. On the one hand, that makes sense as it's a long way off, though depending on when the strike ends, that pre-production window is likely to be drastically shortened.
The studio presumably feels that, assuming the strike ends within the next month or two, it's enough time for Knight to finish writing and for pre-production work to begin in earnest.
Anything beyond, that, though, and we can't help but think another delay might be on the table (some fans have already questioned how wise it is to have this Star Wars movie open mere weeks after Avengers: The Kang Dynasty).
What has been confirmed is the fact this still-untitled Star Wars project will be directed by Obaid-Chinoy and is set 15 years after the last events of the Skywalker Saga. We'll reunite with Rey and follow the story of rebuilding the New Jedi Order and the powers that rise to tear it down.
