STAR WARS: Mark Hamill On Why He Doesn't Believe Lucasfilm Needs Luke Skywalker Any More

The news that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher would return for the Star Wars sequels was welcomed by fans, but the reunion didn't quite go as expected.

For starters, the trio barely spent any time together on screen, and the portrayal of Luke Skywalker was particularly problematic. Hamill himself has expressed disappointment with Rian Johnson's creative decisions on numerous occasions but found a measure of redemption courtesy of The Mandalorian

He's since appeared in The Book of Boba Fett as the younger Luke as well, and there have been rumblings lately about the actor playing a Force Ghost in the upcoming movie featuring Daisy Ridley as Rey.

Talking to CBS News, however, Hamill once again cast doubt on his Star Wars future.

"I had my time, and that's good," he said, refusing to reveal whether a return in on the table. "But that's enough...you never say never. I just don't see any reason to. Let me put it that way: I mean, they have so many stories to tell, they don't need Luke anymore."

When the interviewer suggested fans would disagree with that point, Hamill simply laughed before reminiscing on the impact playing this character has had.

"I mean, the truth of the matter is, I never really expected to be remembered for anything. I just wanted to make a living doing what I liked. And I thought, 'Well, it could be worse. I could be, like, known as being the best actor who ever played Adolf Hitler, you know?' At least Luke is an admirable fellow!"

With Dave Filoni's Star Wars movie expected to loosely adapt Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire, there may well be a role for the younger Luke there. Whether Hamill is interested enough to take part is hard to say, though it would be a missed opportunity not to do something with the iconic Jedi Knight there.
