STAR WARS: Natalie Portman Says She's "Open To" Returning As Padmé Amidala

Though the character was killed off in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Natalie Portman says she would be open to reprising the role of Padmé Amidala should the opportunity arise...

Queen Padmé Amidala played a vital role in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, before dying while giving birth to twins Luke and Leia at the end of Revenge of the Sith. Her death is what ultimately pushed Anakin Skywalker to fully abandon the path of the Jedi and turn to the dark side of the Force.

The Disney+ Star Wars shows have allowed us to revisit earlier timelines in the Galaxy Far, Far Away, and though we have seen both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprise their respective roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin/Darth Vader, Padme has yet to make an appearance.

Honestly, the character wasn't really required for the story the Obi-Wan Kenobi series was telling, and it's difficult to imagine any new spin-off or prequel focusing on Padme. Even so, it sounds like Natalie Portman might be interested in returning should the opportunity present itself.

During an interview with GQ, the Academy Award-winner said she hasn't been asked about potentially reprising the role, but would be "open to it."

Could Amidala ever return for a present-day storyline? Let's assume Lucasfilm wouldn't go so far as resurrecting her (we don't want another "somehow, the Emperor returned" moment), but is a Force Ghost a possibility? Padme wasn't a Jedi, of course, but that doesn't mean she couldn't show up in a some sort of vision or dream.

It's a stretch, we know, but if Natalie Portman wants to play Padme again, we say find a way to bring her back!

I liked Padme more in The Clone Wars though there were a lot of other characters I liked more than her.

Well....there was a period between Phantom Menace and Clone War that could be explored. If I could suggest a story line. They could link some of the story elements from Solo for example perhaps she was instrumental in helping Empjys Nest when she was a child perhaps as a mentor and she inspired her to form the rebellion. Something like that!
