STAR WARS: ROGUE SQUADRON - New Details Have Emerged About Who Else Worked On The Movie's Script

Rogue Squadron is yet another Star Wars that appears to have become trapped in development hell, but we have intel on who else worked on the screenplay before Patty Jenkins parted ways with Lucasfilm.

Lucasfilm announced plans for a new Star Wars movie titled Rogue Squadron in December 2020 with a splashy promo video that put filmmaker Patty Jenkins and an X-Wing front and centre.

We'd later learn that Jenkins had supposedly had to postpone work on the project due to commitments to another, unnamed, movie or TV series. For a time, it looked like Rogue Squadron might come after Wonder Woman 3 or Cleopatra, but it quickly became apparent that it was trapped in development hell.

With Rogue Squadron now indefinitely delayed and not even mentioned during April's Star Wars Celebration, it appears "creative differences" may, in fact, be what led to Jenkins parting ways with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

There's been some chatter about Rogue Squadron potentially becoming a TV series, presumably without Jenkins at the helm. However, some intriguing new details have now found their way online courtesy of Bespin Bulletin

It's said that Jenkins' husband and former merchant marine, Sam Sheridan, was also working on the screenplay at some point and may have penned an entire draft.

As well as writing I Am the Night starring Chris Pine, he's also a consulting producer on Jack Ryan and has penned a number of novels. Given his experience with small screen projects, we can't help but wonder whether he might have been looking to turn Jenkins' movie into a TV series.

The only other writer we know who has worked on Rogue Squadron is Matthew Robinson (Love and Monsters). It's unclear where both he and Sheridan fit into the project's timeline, though insiders have previously claimed the script was a "mess."

We'd like to see Rogue Squadron become a reality, especially as the concept is one with a lot of potential. Jenkins isn't expected to helm Wonder Woman 3 now DC Studios is overhauling the DCU, so the filmmaker's schedule may allow her to return to this Galaxy Far, Far Away.
