The first episode of The Acolyte establishes the show as taking place 100 years before the rise of the Empire. The Galaxy is peaceful and both the Jedi Order and Galactic Republic have prospered without war.

We then meet a young woman played by Amandla Stenberg who confronts Carrie-Anne Moss' Jedi Master Indara. A fight ensues, with the two combatants using the Force to counter each other's moves. Stenberg's character uses knives and throws one of them at the bartender, distracting Indara and allowing the apparent villain to stab and kill her.

She shows mercy to the bartender saved by the fallen Jedi and we later catch up with her, now identified as Osha, working aboard a Trade Federation ship as a mechanic. Yord Fandar (Charlie Barnett) and Jecki Lon (Dafne Keen) arrive as Osha has been identified as Indara's killer. It turns out she used to be a Jedi and left the Order nearly a decade ago.

Osha claims to be innocent but is still taken into custody to answer for her crimes. Meanwhile, back on Coruscant, Vernestra Rwoh (Rebecca Henderson) informs Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) that his former Padawan has been captured and we learn he and Indara saved the girl from a fire on her homeworld when she was a child.

The two decide to keep the murder quiet as they're concerned about what going public could mean for the Jedi due to the Order's political enemies.

Aboard the prison ship, a group of crooks stage an escape and leave Osha behind. Despite what we saw at the start of the episode, she struggles to use the Force and the ship ultimately crashes. Sol learns that she tried saving one of the prisoners who left her and goes to investigate.

Osha, meanwhile, has a vision of her dead twin sister Mae and learns that she's alive and responsible for killing Indara! Sol believes Mae died in the fire after starting it and yet is convinced of Osha's innocence. He, Yord, and Jecki catch up with the former Jedi and she protests her innocence, revealing that Mae is behind Indara's murder. Sol believes her and requests that she goes with them.

As the episode ends, Mae reports to a mysterious masked baddie who tells her, "The Jedi live in a dream. A dream they believe everyone shares. If you attack a Jedi with a weapon, you will fail. Steel or laser are no threat to them, but an Acolyte...an Acolyte kills without a weapon. An Acolyte kills the dream."

With that, he ignites a red lightsaber, but who is he?! That remains to be seen, but you can find our episode 2 recap here.
