The first footage for The Acolyte debuted during Star Wars Celebration London back in April, and while the teaser wasn't officially released, a leaked version of the promo has now been shared online.
We had been told to expect plenty of Jedi action in this Disney+ series, and this teaser is jam-packed with Force-wielders and lightsabers.
The footage beings with Lee Jung-jae's character explaining to students in the Jedi Temple that "the Force is powerful... it is a power we must respect." From there, we see Carrie-Anne Moss and Amandla Stenberg (character names are still under wraps) engaging in some kind of Force battle, glimpses of Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson in action, and more.
Then, right at the end, we get a great shot of multiple Jedi igniting their lightsabers in unison.
At one point, Jodie Turner Smith's character says, "this isn’t about good or bad, it’s about power and who’s allowed to use it.” Is she destined to become the first Jedi to turn her back on the light side and become a Sith? If so, she won't be the only one.
We won't be hosting the trailer here, but it's not difficult to find!
Showrunner Leslye Headland has previously stated that The Acolyte will dedicate a lot of screen-time to "the antagonists," and Keen later let slip that the series will actually focus on The Sith "infiltrating" the Jedi.
“No, I mean, as you know, it’s set 100 years before the prequel movies, and it’s kind of an explanation of how the Sith infiltrated the Jedi. It’s a Sith-led story, which has never been done before. It’s been really fun to film – the cast is amazing, and the director and crew are just lovely. The whole experience is wonderful, and I’m already excited for people to see it.”
The series is described as, "a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated."
No premiere date has been announced, but the show is expected to launch on Disney+ at some point next year. Now that this teaser has leaked, there's a chance Lucasfilm will decide to release an official version, so be sure to keep an eye on SFFGazette.com for updates.
